Bendix drive:-          

            Bendix drive is fastened to the starting motor armature shaft. The drive head is keyed to the end of armature shaft starts revolving at full speed. This tuning effect is transmitted through the head and spring to the threaded sleeve.

Watch for details...

       The pinion, because of its inertia of rest and balancing weight, turns very slowly but moved forward by the spiral thread until it engage with the teeth of flywheel. A slight turning effect is given to the pinion as it moves out. When pinion move to the end of thread, it strikes the college at left and forced to turn with the threaded sleeve. This cause the flywheel and crankshaft to turn and crank the engine. The shock of the start is relived by the spring connection between the armature and threaded sleeve....
